Commentary

Riza Pahlavi Shah (26/10/1919-27/07/1980) modernized his country after the Second World War. The agrarian reform he organized for the benefit of the peasantry and at the expense of the immense lands of the clergy earned him the inexpiable hatred of the latter. In the tradition of Louis XVI and Nicholas II, he owes his fall to his lack of firmness against perfectly organized opponents, to his concern for appearances and foreign affairs to the detriment of domestic problems. This representation of the lion in the sun is an allegory dating back to the oldest astrology where birth while the constellation of the lion is in the sun indicates a destiny of power
