Exemplaire sur un petit flan, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Très beau masque de lion au droit. Usure superficielle pour un exemplaire tout à fait exceptionnel de par son iconographie de revers. Une fine patine grise recouvre l’exemplaire

IONIA - MILETUS

(6th - 5th century BC)

Miletus, founded in the 12th century BC, had been the seat of the Ionian Confederation. During the War of Liberation, it was crushed in 494 BC. Its cult of Apollo was renowned throughout Asia Minor. Its settlers founded, among others, the colonies of Abydos, Cyzicus, Sinope and Panticapaeum.
