(1877-1901)

Victoria succeeded William IV in 1837. From 1853, part of the prerogatives of the East India Company were transferred to the crown. The sepoy revolt in 1858 led to the intervention of the British army. India was definitively attached to the crown in 1862. In 1877, Victoria received the honorary title of Empress of India and kept it until her death..
