Historical background

INDIA - KINGDOM OF VIJAYANAGAR - HARIHARARAYA II

(1377-1404)

The kingdom of Vijayanagar was founded in 1336 by the two brothers Bukka and Harihara as well as the city of the same name. After the death of Harihara I, his brother Bukkaraya continued territorial conquests. Harihara II, from 1377, notably consolidated the borders and obtained the ports of Goa, Chaul or Dabhol. Under his rule, trade and the economy experienced a major expansion. The kingdom is located in east-central India on the Bay of Bengal (state of Andhra Pradesh).
