The Gahadavala Rajput dynasty of Kanauj reigned in North India in the 12th century with Kasi as its capital. Raja Govinda Chandra reigned from 1114 to 1154 over Ayodhya and the Delhi region. His successor Jayachandra was defeated and killed by the Ghurid governor Qutub ud-Din Aibak in 1194 and Kanauj was integrated into the Sultanate of Delhi..
