Historical background

INDIA – PRINCE STATES OF MYSORE

(1799-1868)

Mysore is a former princely state in India. It is said to have been founded in 1399 in the vicinity of the modern city of Mysore. The state, ruled by the Odeyar dynasty, was initially a vassal of the Vijayanagara kingdom. With the decline of the latter (around 1565), Mysore became independent. In 1947, the state was united with India, but the rulers of the Odeyar dynasty did not cease to reign definitively until 1949..
