Commentary

Historical background

INDIA - MUGHAL EMPIRE - SHAH JAHAN

(1628-1658)

Shahab-ud-din Muhammad Khurram (1592-1666) is the fifth Mughal emperor under the name of Shah Jahan from January 19, 1628 to July 31, 1658. We owe him many architectural achievements, the most emblematic of which is the Taj Mahal in Agra . Sick from 1657, his end of reign was marked by a fight between his four sons, of which his third son Aurangzeb emerged victorious. In 1658, he was placed under house arrest at Agra Fort where he died in 1666.
