TUVALU ISLANDS - ELIZABETH II

(since 1978)

Elisabeth II (born in 1926) is the daughter of George VI and Elisabeth. She became queen in 1952 when her father died. Married to Philip of Edinburgh in 1947, she had four children. The Tuvalu Islands (formerly Ellice Islands) are located in the Gilbert Archipelago in the South Pacific. They have about 15,000 inhabitants. It is a parliamentary democracy which receives significant support from the United Kingdom.
