SAINT-MARTIN ISLAND
(1639- to the present day)
The island of Saint-Martin is an island in the West Indies discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus. In 1639, the governor of Saint-Christophe took possession of it in the name of Louis XIII. In 1648, the Concordia convention divided the island between French in the north and Dutch in the south (Sint Maarten). The border was definitively fixed in 1817.
