Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec des grènetis visibles. Très belle tête de la Clémence, bien venue à la frappe. Magnifique revers finement détaillé. Très jolie patine grise superficielle avec des reflets dorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse description : Tête féminine, “Clementia”, (la Clémence) à droite, coiffée d’une couronne de chêne, “corona civica”.


Reverse legend : L. HOSTILIVS/ SASERNA.
Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) marchant à droite, tenant un trophée de la main gauche et de la main droite, un caducée.
Reverse translation : “Lucius Hostilius Saserna”, (Lucius Hostilius Saserna).

(48 BC) Lucius Hostilius Saserna

Lucius Hostilius Saserna was from Cremona in Cisalpine Gaul. He owed his career to Julius Caesar he had followed throughout the Gallic War (58-50 BC). In the fratricidal struggle between Caesar's and Pompeii, he remained faithful to Caesar and participated in the siege of Marseilles. He served in Africa and is mentioned by Cicero as a friend of Antony and Octavian. He entered the Senate.
