Suite à la première guerre de l’opium (1839-1842), le traité de Nankin entérine la cession par la Chine de Hong Kong au Royaume Uni. Les conventions signées en 1860 (Kowloon) et 1898 (New Territories) élargissent le territoire de la colonie britannique.
