Suite à la première guerre de l’opium (1839-1842), le traité de Nankin entérine la cession par la Chine de Hong Kong au Royaume Uni. Les conventions signées en 1860 (Kowloon) et 1898 (New Territories) élargissent le territoire de la colonie britannique. Le 1er juillet 1997, la colonie est rétrocédée à la République Populaire de Chine..

The treaties signed in 1860 (Kowloon) and 1898 (New Territories) expanded the territory of the British colony. On July 1, 1997, the colony was returned to the People's Republic of China.
