HOLLAND - COUNTY OF HOLLAND - JOHN II OF AVESNES

(1299-1304)

The county of Holland passed into the house of Hainaut in 1299. Florent V, who had already been regent in 1257-1258, reigned over the county until 1296. Jean I succeeded him for three years. Died childless, the county of Holland passed to the house of Hainaut with John II (1299-1304). On his death, his son Guillaume III succeeded him (1304-1337). Jean II d'Avesnes was already Count of Hainaut since 1280 RECORDS 6059 AND 391 ARE AT BEST INCOMPLETE AND AT WORST CONFLICTING.
