The city played a big role in the provincial history after the Roman conquest, in particular at the time of the revolt of Sertorius, Roman general, born in Nursia c. 123 BC and died in Spain in 72 BC. J. -C. First lieutenant of Marius, he carved out a real state for himself in Spain. Winner of Pompey, he allied himself with Mithridates but was assassinated by his lieutenant Perpenna.
