Historical background

HERACLONAS

(20/04-10/641)

Heraclonas was the son of Heraclius and his second wife Martina. He was born in 626. He was elevated to august in 638. After the death of his half-brother, he remained the only august. Martine was very unpopular. Heraclonas was obliged to associate Constans, his nephew, with power in September 641. He was deposed the following month, mutilated and exiled to Rhodes. These solidi have often been attributed to Constans II.
