Obverse description : L'archange Gabriel visitant la Vierge, autour d’un écu écartelé de France-Angleterre sous une couronne. Gabriel tend un rouleau inscrit AVE (horizontal) ; au-dessus six rayons de lumière divine.
Obverse translation : (Henry, par la grâce de Dieu, roi des Francs et des Anglais).

Commentary


Type monétaire particulièrement rare qui ne fut frappé qu’à Rouen fin 1421 et en 1422. Ce type monétaire est si rare qu’il manquait à la célèbre collection Elias.

HENRY V OF LANCASTRE

(12/08/1415-31/08/1422)

August 12, 1415, Henry V of England left Southampton with a portion of the British fleet to win France. He besieged Harfleur and won the battle of Agincourt (24 October 1415) before returning to England. Back in France, he seized in 1417 Caen, Rouen 19 January 1419 and Saint-Lô March 12, 1419, the entire Normandy fell under the British. The Treaty of Troyes, signed May 21, 1420, granted to Henry V hand of Catherine de France, daughter of Isabeau of Bavaria, and the possibility of access to the throne of France, to the detriment of the Dauphin, after the death of Charles VI. His union with Catherine of France was born the future Henry VI. Shortly after the birth of his son, Henry V died in the castle of Vincennes August 31, 1422.
