Commentary
This token is attributed to P. le Clerc by Dr. Corre, but we do not know where this hypothesis comes from, especially since it does not bear a personal coat of arms. This token is reported in Feuardent but is missing from La Tour or Florange. The letters PLC on the obverse are much more likely an abbreviation than the initials of Pierre Le Clerc. This token is the first struck for the Military Treasurers of the armies, of the ordinary and extraordinary wars. A variant exists in bimetallic token (Weil-Pastoureau n° 37)
