Commentary
A coin of the greatest rarity, the type of which is not mentioned in the works of Jean Lafaurie and Pierre Prieur or in that of Jean Duplessy. This coin was missing from M. Beynier's collection of quarter and eighth écus and was first recorded in Franciae IV, p. 318, by another example considered unique. The mintage is expressed in quarter écus and includes eighth écus. According to our archival research, there were seven issues of quarter and eighth écus, the first dated April 12 and the last November 22, 1603 (AN, Z1b 937).
