Bel exemplaire frappé sur un flan un peu court et ovale. Les types sont légèrement décentrés mais presque complets. Patine grise de collection ancienne

Commentary


Ce type de denier semble excessivement rare. Il est illustré dans le LA TOUR et classé à la BN entre des deniers trévires du type LT. 9401. Un exemplaire de ce type, mais en mauvais état est conservé à Zurich (Z. 562) classé aux Eduens. K. Castelin cite le denier n° 6 du Forrer (cf. page 10 avec les monnaies perforées) de la collection Forrer indiqué comme acquis à Strasbourg et provenant de la région....
This type of denarius seems extremely rare. It is illustrated in the LA TOUR and classified at the BN between Treveri denarii of the LT. 9401 type. A example of this type, but in poor condition, is preserved in Zurich (Z. 562) classified in the Aedui. K. Castelin cites denarius no. 6 of the Forrer (see page 10 with the perforated coins) from the Forrer collection indicated as acquired in Strasbourg and coming from the region...

HELVETII - VINDELICI (Germania, currently South Germany)

(2nd century BC - 1st century AD)

The Vindelicians were considered to be a people of Celtic origin. They possibly controlled the headwaters of the Rhine and the region of Lake Constance and the Inn valley. Their neighbors were the Helvetii and the Boii. Their main oppidum was Brigantion (Bregenz). They were submitted only by Tiberius during the campaign of 15 BC. Strabo (IV. 3, 6; VII, 1, 5); Pliny (HN. III, 133); Tacitus (An. II, 17); Ptolemy (G. II, 12). Kruta: 69.
