Exemplaire sur un petit flan, bien centré, mais un peu court sur les légendes. Très beau portrait inhabituel d’Hadrien. Joli revers à l’usure régulière. Très belle patine vert jade clair marbrée de sable, légèrement granuleuse et piquée

Obverse description : Grand buste héroïque d’Hadrien lauré et drapé à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*01).
Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul Tertium", (L’empereur césar Trajan Hadrien auguste grand pontife consul pour la troisième fois père de la patrie).

Reverse legend : LIBERTAS . PVBLICA/ -|-// SC.
Reverse description : Libertas (La Liberté) drapée assise à gauche, tenant une branche de laurier de la main droite et un sceptre long de la gauche.
Reverse translation : "Libertas Publica", (La Liberté publique).
Commentary
Poids très léger. Rubans de type 3. Portrait de joli style. Césure particulière au droit avec HADRIA-NVS. Point séparatif dans la légende de revers. Type de portrait particulièrement rare avec un grand buste héroïque, une partie de la poitrine visible sous le paludamentum.

Historical background
HADRIAN

Hadrian was born in 76 in Italica. Pupil of Trajan, he married in 100 Sabine, grand-niece of the emperor, and made a career in the staff of the latter, in particular during the Dacian campaign. In 117, he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting the entire empire - the only Emperor to have lent himself to this exercise. In 122, Hadrian went to Spain. Childless, he first chose Aélius to succeed him in 136, but the latter died on January 1, 138. Hadrian then adopted Antonin on February 25 and himself chose Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as Antoninus' heirs. He died on July 10, 138.
