Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et irrégulier bien centré. Beau buste d’Hadrien Revers de style fin. Patine grise avec des reflets dorés

Obverse legend : IMP CAESAR TRAIAN H-ADRIANVS AVG.
Obverse description : Buste lauré d'Hadrien à droite, drapé sur l’épaule gauche (O*2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Trajan Hadrien auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : P M TR P - COS III.
Reverse description : Genius ou Bonus Eventus (le Génie du Peuple romain) nu, debout à gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et sacrifiant au-dessus d’un autel allumé et tenant deux épis de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul tertium”, (Grand pontife détenteur de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la troisième fois).

Commentary


Rubans de type 2. Pour le Génie au revers, il existe deux variantes : la première avec le Génie nu tenant deux épis et la seconde avec le Génie, vêtu de l’himation, tenant une corne d’abondance. Notre type, le premier, semble plus rare.

HADRIEN

(11/08/117-10/07/138) Publius Ælius Hadrianus

Hadrian was born in Italica 76. Ward of Trajan, he married 100 great-niece of the Emperor, Sabine, and had a career in the General Staff of the Emperor, especially when the Dacian campaign. In 117 he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting all of the Empire, the only emperor to have done. In 122, Hadrian visited in Spain. Childless, he chose first Aelius to succeed him in 136, but he died on 1 January 138. Hadrian then adopted on 25 February and Antonin himself chooses Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as heirs of Antoninus. He died 10 July 138.
