Exemplaire sur un flan large, ien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait massif d’Hadrien. Joli revers bien venu à la frappe avec une usure importante. Patine vert olive foncé, légèrement granuleuse

Reverse legend : SALVS - AVGVSTI/ S|C// [COS III].
Reverse description : Salus (la Santé) debout à gauche, nourrissant un serpent de la main droite, lequel est enroulé autour d’un autel, et tenant un sceptre de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Salus Augusti// Consul tertium”, (La Santé de l’auguste// Consul pour la troisième fois).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Gran pan de paludamentum sur l’épaule gauche uniquement. Cette émission est liée aux vœux pour le retour après le premier voyage de l’empereur.
Type 3 ribbons. Large pan of paludamentum on the left shoulder only. This issue is related to the wishes for the return after the emperor's first voyage.

Historical background


HADRIAN

(08/11/117-07/10/138)

Hadrian was born in 76 in Italica. Pupil of Trajan, he married in 100 Sabine, grand-niece of the emperor, and made a career in the staff of the latter, in particular during the Dacian campaign. In 117, he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting the entire empire - the only Emperor to have lent himself to this exercise. In 122, Hadrian went to Spain. Childless, he first chose Aélius to succeed him in 136, but the latter died on January 1, 138. Hadrian then adopted Antonin on February 25 and himself chose Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as Antoninus' heirs. He died on July 10, 138.
