Coments on the condition:
Monnaie sur un flan court mais bien centré. Patine grise, avec des reflets bleutés au droit. La monnaie présente de légères traces de concrétion. Joli buste

Obverse description : Buste lauré et drapé d’Hadrien à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Trajan Hadrien auguste).

Reverse legend : P - M TR P - COS - III/ PRO|AVG.
Reverse description : Providentia (la Providence) drapée debout à gauche, pointant un globe terrestre de l’index de la main droite et tenant un sceptre long de la main gauche .
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul tertium/ Providentia Augusti”, (Grand pontife revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la troisième fois/ la Providence de l’auguste).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. La Providence tient normalement un bâton placé au-dessus du globe. En fait, sur notre exemplaire, la Providence pointe son index droit au-dessus du globe.

Historical background


HADRIAN

(08/11/117-07/10/138)

Hadrian was born in 76 in Italica. Pupil of Trajan, he married in 100 Sabine, grand-niece of the emperor, and made a career in the staff of the latter, in particular during the Dacian campaign. In 117, he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting the entire empire - the only Emperor to have lent himself to this exercise. In 122, Hadrian went to Spain. Childless, he first chose Aélius to succeed him in 136, but the latter died on January 1, 138. Hadrian then adopted Antonin on February 25 and himself chose Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as Antoninus' heirs. He died on July 10, 138.
