Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et irrégulier bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Belle tête de l’Italie. Revers de style fin. Jolie patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Reverse description : Soldat casqué, nu jusqu’à la ceinture, debout de face tourné à droite, le pied droit foulant un objet (étendard romain), tenant de la main droite une épée et de la gauche une javeline pointe en terre ; dans le champ à droite, un taureau couché, tournant la tête à gauche ; lettre osque de contrôle à l’exergue.


Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages de référence. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente.

(90-88 BC)

Marsique the war began after the revolt Asculum late 91 BC The people of Picenium, Samnium and Apulia rebelled against the authority of Rome and the injustice of the Senate. Rome refused to give citizenship to allied Italian cities which revolted in 90 BC, forming the Confederation of Marsi, composed of eight people in central Italy. They chose a capital Corfinium, they renamed Italia. This is the beginning of the Social War. The Senate granted the right of citizenship to some allies to try to break the League, but the following year, Rome was shaken, beaten consuls. L. Porcius Cato was killed fighting the Italians. Sulla in 89 BC, won the victory of Nola in Campania on the coalition and took Bovianum in Samnium, seat assemblies allies. He received the title of "Felix" (Happy). The death of Pomponius Silo and leniency towards Rome revolted cities ended the Social War in 88 BC.
