Commentary

Type incertain. On distingue un glaive sous le cheval, et l’aurige tient peut-être un torque, comme sur l’exemplaire DT 2044. Notre monnaie semble cependant en bas alliage.
Uncertain type. We can see a sword under the horse, and the charioteer is perhaps holding a torque, as on the DT 2044 example. Our coin, however, seems to be made of low alloy

Historical background

Undetermined Aera of Normandy

(3rd - 2nd century BC)

Gold issues from the 3rd century and the beginning of the 2nd century are varied but rather poorly known, with a small number of specimens and few certain provenances. Nevertheless, the circulation area seems concentrated on Normandy, thus bringing together peoples such as the Baïocasses, the Unelles or the Léxoviens. These people probably did not have the same reality in the 3rd century as at the time of the Gallic Wars, when Julius Caesar mentions them! Some do not hesitate to group these coins into "Léxoviens du 3e siècle" (MONETA) while others, more cautious, group them under the name "Groupe de Normandie", dated from the 3rd century and the first half of the 2nd century BC." (New Atlas).
