Commentary


La date inscrite au revers “21 avril 1967” correspond à la date du coup d’état qui instaura la “Dictature des colonels” menée par Geórgios Papadópoulos. Le phoenix et le soldat fusil à l’épaule deviennent les symboles de la junte. Le roi Constantin II reste roi tout en étant éxilé en Italie. La monarchie est définitivement abolie en 1973.
The date on the reverse, “April 21, 1967,” corresponds to the date of the coup d’état that established the “Dictatorship of the Colonels” led by Geórgios Papadópoulos. The phoenix and the soldier with a rifle on his shoulder became the symbols of the junta. King Constantine II remained king while being exiled in Italy. The monarchy was definitively abolished in 1973.
