Reverse description : Gratien debout à droite, tenant le labarum de la main gauche et de la droite, par les cheveux, un captif agenouillé.
Reverse translation : “Gloria Romanorum”, (La gloire des Romains).

GRATIAN

(24/08/367-25/08/383)

Born in 359, Gratien was named Augustus at the age of 8. Having become "Senior Augustus" after the death of his uncle in 378, he had to share power with his half-brother Valentinian II and chose Theodosius to assist him in the East. In 378, he had the statue of Victory, a pagan reference in his eyes, removed from the senate hall. After the revolt of Magnus Maximus, he fled but was assassinated in Lyon on August 25, 383..
