Historical background

GREAT BRITAIN - GEORGE IV

(01/29/1820-06/25/1830)

Georges IV (09/12/1762-06/25/1830) is the eldest son of Georges III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg. After a depraved youth, he became Regent in 1810 when his father's dementia was too serious. He married Caroline of Brunswick (1768-1821). Their only daughter Charlotte (1796-1817) married Leopold of Saxe-Coburg, the future King of the Belgians. His brothers Guillaume IV and Ernest-Auguste are respectively King of England and King of Hanover. His niece Victoria becomes queen. Georges IV is an ultra-conservative, sworn enemy of Napoleon and a traitor to the word given to the Emperor, whom he allows to be deported to the island of Saint Helena. He relies on Wellington to govern.
