Commentary

Médaille attribuée à Jean Raymond-Laurent en tant que député de la Charente. Il naquit le 20 juillet 1890 à Nîmes (Gard) et décéda le 26 mars 1969 à Paris. Il fut élu député sous le IIIe république dans la 1re circonscription de Saint-Étienne (Loire), à la suite de l’accession d’Antoine Pinay au Sénat. Il s’engagea contre le Franquisme. Opposé aux accords de Munich, il votera toutefois les pleins pouvoir au Maréchal Pétain. À la libération il participa à la création du Mouvement républicain populaire. De 1945 à 1958 il exerça plusieurs mandats de député de la Manche sous l’étiquette du MRP. D’octobre 1949 à juillet 1950, il fut secrétaire d’état aux forces armées.

The Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF) is the name given to the French Committee for National Liberation (CFLN) led by General de Gaulle since June 1944 and in anticipation of the Allied landings. Recognized by the United States, little by little, the Provisional Government of the French Republic saw its authority extend to the liberated regions. This government was installed in Paris on August 31, 1944 and was reorganized in September to allow the entry of personalities from the internal resistance. This government remained in office until January 16, 1947, the date of the election of Vincent Auriol as President of the Fourth Republic. At its head are General de Gaulle, Félix Gouin, Georges Bidault and Léon Blum..
