Commentary

Poids très lourd. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.
Very heavy weight. Pteryges invisible under the paludamentum. This type seems rarer than general works suggest.

Historical background

GORDIAN III

(02-03/238-03/244)

Augustus

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations. Emperor at 13, married at 16, killed at 19, this is how the life of this young man could be summed up, victim of the appetites of Philippe the Arab, new prefect of the praetorium.
