Obverse legend : AUT K M ANTWNIOS GORD-I-A-NOS AUG, (Autokrator Kaisar Markos Antwnios Gordianos Augustos).
Obverse translation : (L'empereur césar Marc Antoine Gordien auguste).


Reverse description : Rome nicéphore, casquée et drapée assise à gauche sur un trône orné de pattes de lion, tenant une petite victoriola de la main droite tendue et une haste transversale de la main gauche, appuyée sur son bouclier.
Reverse translation : (Magistrat Tertullien de Marcianopolis).


Médaillon de dix assaria (decassaria). Trou de centrage visible des deux côtés. Buste exceptionnel. Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse orné de l’égide. Épaulières ornées d’une tête de lion. Ptéryges larges et tombantes. Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire reproduit dans l’ouvrage de Varbonov, Greek Imperial Coins, vol 1, Dacia, Moesia Superior, Moesia Inferior, p. 185, n° 1931.

Gordian III is the grand-son of Gordian I and Gordian II's nephew, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he was chosen by Cesar Balbin and Pupien and their successor after their murders. Emperor at age 13, married at 16, killed at 19, that's how could sum up the life of this young man who was the victim appetites of Philip the Arab, new praetorian prefect.
