Reverse description : Apollon à demi-nu, assis à gauche, tenant une branche de laurier de la main droite, le bras gauche appuyé sur sa lyre posée sur le siège.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate quintum Consul iterum Pater Patriæ”, (Grand pontife, revêtu de la cinquième puissance tribunitienne, consul pour la deuxième fois, père de la patrie).

Gordian III is the grand-son of Gordian I and Gordian II's nephew, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he was chosen by Cesar Balbin and Pupien and their successor after their murders.
