Exemplaire sur un flan irrégulier bien centré. Très joli buste de Gordien Ier d’Afrique. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Très jolie patine verte avec de minuscules concrétions de couleur sable

Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Marcus Antonius Gordianus Africanus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Marc Antoine Gordien l’Africain auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : VICT-ORIA - AVGG/ S|C.
Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) drapée, marchant à gauche, brandissant une couronne de la main droite et une palme de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augustorum”, (La Victoire des augustes).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fine sous le paludamentum. Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire reproduit dans l’ouvrage de D. Sear, vol. III, p. 9, n° 8453. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente.

(01-02/238) Marcus Antonius Gordianus Sempronianus Romanus

Gordian Governor Proconsular took the head of the revolt and associated his son in power who had the same name immediately, making proclaimed Augustus. The Gordian were recognized by the Senate that I hated Maximin Thrace. But the reign of the African emperors lasted only twenty-one days. The governor of Numidia, faithful to Maximin entered Proconsulaire with the Third legion Augusta and crushed the unprepared troops of Gordian II was killed in battle. In hearing the news, his father committed suicide.
