Poids très léger. Fourré. De la plus grande rareté. En 1880, dans l’ouvrage d’Henry Cohen, Rollin et Feuardent cotaient ce denier 200 francs or soit le prix de cinq aurei courants.

Historical background

GETA, SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS and CARACALLA

Septimius Severus had two sons from his second marriage to Julia Domna: Caracalla, born in 188, and Geta, born in 189. The first became Caesar in 196 and Augustus in 198; the second was raised to the caesarat in 198. From 201, we have an important coinage of dynastic issues which will culminate with the return of the emperor to Rome in 202, which coincides with his decennalia and with the marriage of Caracalla with Plautille . The highlight of this program will be the celebration of the Secular Games in 204. Coins with multiple portraits are extremely rare.
