Commentary

Pour ce type de revers, il existe de nombreuses variantes de portrait du juvénile à l’adolescent. En 203, Géta à quatorze ans et notre denier ne le laisse pas transparaître.
For this type of reverse, there are many portrait variations from juvenile to adolescent. In 203, Geta was fourteen years old and our coin does not show this.

Historical background

GETA

(06/198-26/02/212)

Caesar

Born on May 26, 189, Geta became Caesar in 198 and received the title of pontifex the following year. He accompanies his father and his brother to Brittany from 208 and is raised to Augustat the following year. When Septimius Severus died in York on February 4, 211, the two brothers brought their father's ashes back to Rome and became co-emperors. But they hate each other. Finally, after a year of joint rule, Caracalla kills his brother in their mother's arms. Geta is dedicated to "damnatio memoriæ" (damnation of memory). His supporters are systematically massacred.
