GERMANY - SCHAUMBURG-LIPPE- GEORGE-WILLIAM

(1787-1860)

Georges-Guillaume (1784-1860) was Count then Prince of Schaumbourg-Lippe from 1787 until his death. Born in Bückeburg, Georges-Guillaume is the fourth son of Count Philippe II of Schaumbourg-Lippe, the only one by his second wife Julienne of Hesse-Philippsthal. He was the only son of Philippe to survive his father, and became a count on his death on February 13, 1787. He was only two years old on that date, and his mother ensured the regency. On April 11, 1807, the county entered the Confederation of the Rhine, and was elevated to the rank of principality. In 1815, it joined the Germanic Confederation..
