Commentary


La représentation d’Hercule au revers est de toute beauté. Il s’agit d’un bel exemple de l’art baroque de l’extrême fin du XVIIe siècle. Le rendu est comparable à une oeuvre pictural.

Augustus is By the Grace of God Duke of Saxony Arch-Marshal of the Holy Roman Empire and Elector. Saxony had become Protestant in 1530 and posed as champion of the reformed states against the Habsburgs.
