GERMANY - KINGDOM OF BAVARIA - MAXIMILIAN I JOSEPH

(1799-1805-1825)

Maximilien Joseph (1756-1825) united the two duchies of Bavaria in 1799. He had to sign the Treaty of Lunéville in 1801 and became Napoleon I's ally. The principality was elevated to a kingdom in 1806 and Bavaria joined the Confederation of the Rhine. He remained loyal to Napoleon until the battle of Leipzig in 1813. He died in 1825 and his son, Louis I, succeeded him..
