Frederick II (9/07/1857-9/08/1928) succeeded his father Frederick I in 1907 and abdicated in 1918. He had married Hilda of Luxembourg on September 20, 1885. Before the First World War, the Grand Duchy of Baden had an area of 15,069 km2 and a population of 2.2 million with Karlsruhe as its capital.
