Historical background

GERMANY - DUCHY OF SAXONY - JOHN GEORGE II

(1656-1680)

Christian II, Jean-Georges and Auguste, the sons of Christian I (1586-1591), belong to the Albertine line of the Saxony family. On the death of their father, a distant cousin of the Ernestine line, Frederick-William of Saxe-Altenburg, was appointed regent from 1591 to 1602 for the three brothers Christian II (1591-1611), Auguste (1591-1615) and Jean -George I (1591-1656). From 1615, Jean-Georges I reigned alone. On his death in 1656, his eldest son, Jean-Georges II, succeeded him (1656-1680).
