Historical background

GERMANICUS

(+19) Caius Cæsar Germanicus

Return of Claude

Germanicus was the eldest son of Nero Drusus and Antonia. He was born in 15 BC and was adopted in 4 along Tiberius. He led numerous campaigns on the Rhine-Danube limes and received the triumph 17. He was then sent to Syria with a proconsul imperium and died at 19 in Antioch, perhaps murdered at the instigation of Tiberius by Pison (Suetonius). He is the father of Caligula and Agrippina the Younger, and brother Claude.
