Bronze de qualité hors du commun pour cette rare monnaie. Droit et revers complets malgré une frappe un peu décentrée au droit. Patine brune, un peu granuleuse et assez peu photogénique, mais homogène et naturelle. Droit de frappe vigoureuse, mais petite plat de frappe sur les jambes du personnage du revers

Commentary

La représentation d’un personnage en pied est assez exceptionnelle sur des bronzes gaulois, mise à part l’abondante série au personnage courant des Bellovaques !
L'attribution aux Turons n’est peut-être pas satisfaisante, mais l’aire de répartition de ces bronzes, comme de tant d’autres attribués aux Carnutes, est localisée au sud de la Touraine....

The people of the Turons, settled on the Loire, left their name to Tours and Touraine. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. They seem to have grown in importance after the disappearance of the Arverne empire in 121 BC. Like the Pictons, the Turons provided eight thousand men for the relief army which was to release Alesia. Their main oppidum seems to have been placed near the site of Amboise. Caesar (BG. II, 35; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 46).
