Exemplaire légèrement décentré, mais moins que la plupart des exemplaires répertoriés, souvent frustes. Belle patine verdâtre

Obverse description : Tête à gauche, un torque au cou. Légende devant et derrière la tête. Fleur à quatre pétales derrière la nuque, grènetis.
Reverse
Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Lion élancé à gauche, la queue entre les pattes et enroulée jusqu'au-dessus du dos. Une esse au-dessus de la croupe, dauphin (?) au-dessous. Une sorte de triskèle derrière le lion. Grènetis.
Commentary
Le revers de ce bronze est particulièrement intéressant ; le dauphin est très au bord du flan et incomplet, mais il semble y avoir un élément décoratif, derrière la queue, ressemblant à un triskèle. L'élément situé à cet endroit est habituellement une esse (pointée sur le n° 12, pl. VIII du Lambert I et sur le n° 10, pl. VII de l'Atlas de Lelewel). Mais il convient de se méfier des dessin, souvent très interprétés, qui arrangent la réalité.

GALLIA BELGICA - REMI (Area of Reims)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Remi were one of the most powerful peoples of Gaul and loyal allies of the Romans. The territory of the Rèmes extended over present-day Champagne, along the Aisne. They had for neighbors the Atuatuci, the Treveri, the Mediomatrics, the Lingones, the Suessions, the Bellovaci and the Nervians. They denounced to Caesar the coalition of Belgian peoples of 57 BC which included the Suessions who shared the same laws and the same magistrates. Their main oppidum was Bibrax. The capital of the civitas in Gallo-Roman times was Durocortorum (Reims). Caesar (BG. II, 3-5, 7, 12; III, 11; V, 3, 24, 53, 54, 56; VI, 4, 12, 44; VII, 63, 90; VIII, 6, 11) . Strabo (G. IV, 3, 5).
