Commentary

This type could be copied from the long-necked and Y-shaped potin from the Rhône Valley (cf. COINS XV, no. 230). There is a homotypy of contiguity with the “mannequin” potins (COINS XV, no. 517, cf. BN 5257-5261) and the Bituriges potins copied from the coinage imitated from the bronzes of Marseille (Scheers Lyon, no. 671 and 672)

Historical background

GALLIA - BELGICA - PARIS AREA

(1st century BC)

Under the term Parisian region are gathered all the coins, generally of bronze or pewter, which cannot be attributed to the Parisii, even if sometimes some of their examples have been found in Paris, in the Seine. These "peripheral" coins are often found locally or located in geographical areas of the current Paris region. Need we remind you that the Parisii emancipated themselves late from Senone supervision, even if this cliché is sometimes called into question today? These pagi coins must have had a limited circulation area and are often, even today, rare. Once again, only a precise map of the distribution of the finds will make it possible to better understand and better situate these coinages which are only poorly known because the various stakeholders concerned do not want to take the trouble to make them known..
