Obverse description : Tête ceinte d’un bandeau à gauche, la chevelure indiquée par trois mèches, le cou par trois petits traits.

Reverse description : Sanglier enseigne à gauche, la queue recourbée ; hampe surmontée d'un gros annelet central accosté de deux petits annelets placés au bout des pattes du sanglier.

Commentary


La classe Ie a la caractéristique d’avoir un bandeau torsadé et une mèche parallèle au bandeau en retombant sur la nuque. Au revers, les deux annelets périphériques ne sont pas joints à l'annelet central qui surmonte la hampe mais les pattes du sanglier reposent dessus.

The Leuques are mentioned only once in the Gallic Wars. Their neighbors were the Médiomatriques, the Lingons and the Séquanes. The Leuques as well as the Séquanes and the Lingones provided Caesar with wheat when the Roman army stopped at Vesontio (Besançon) to refuel before facing the Germans of Ariovistus (58 BC).
