Obverse description : Reste de tête humaine à droite dont il ne subsiste que la couronne transversale, des croissants et un petit sanglier enseigne.

Reverse description : Cheval à encolure fourchue galopant à droite ; entre les jambes, un annelet cerclé et globulé ; au-dessus du cheval, un annelet centré et un rinceau aux extrémités bouletées.

Commentary


Le droit est inspiré par le monnayage belge des Suessions comme le faisait déjà remarquer S. Scheers en 1970. Les auteurs du DT le classent dans la série des “bronzes dérivés de séries en or”.

GALLIA - AULERCI EBUROVICES (Area of Évreux)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci were subdivided into three tribes: Aulerci Diablintes, Aulerci Cenomani and Aulerci Éburovices. The territory of Aulerques Éburovices corresponds to the current department of Eure. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. According to the latter, they would have massacred their Senate favorable to the Romans in 56 BC and would have joined the Unelles and the revolted Lexoviens. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of three thousand men to the relief army. : Caesar (BG.(II, 34; III, 17, 29; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 7). Kruta: 72.
