Intéressant petit quart d’un type rare, avec un très bel avers mais un revers de frappe confuse. Bel aspect du métal

Commentary


Le droit de cet exemplaire rapproche sans aucune ambiguïté cette monnaie du groupe cénomans. Le revers est particulièrement intéressant car il correspond aux statères du type DT. 2144 dits “au revers oblitéré”. Il semble qu’aucune monnaie divisionnaire de ce type n’ait été signalée !
Ce quart de statère semble complètement inédit.

GALLIA - AULERCI CENOMANI (Area of Le Mans)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci are a very large people who are subdivided into three large tribes, including the Aulerci Cenomani who were located to the south-east of the Aulerci Diablintes (Mayenne basin), in the current department of Sarthe. Their city in the Gallo-Roman era, Vindunum, perpetuates their name in the form of Le Mans. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of five thousand men for the relief army of Vercingetorix, besieged in Alesia. Caesar (BG. VII, 75). Kruta: 72, 187, 266.
