Commentary


Poids léger. Petit diadème perlé dans les cheveux et natte de cheveux relevée en arrière, ornementée. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous présentons un exemplaire à la vente.

(315) Galeria Valeria

Diocletian's daughter, wife of Galerius - Augusta (308-311)

Galeria Valeria is the daughter of Diocletian and Galerius Maximian adopting 293, Diocletian made him marry his daughter. It appears on the coinage after the conference of Carnuntum (11/11/308) but it disappears after her husband's death in 311. She remained under the protection of Maximin Daia II. After the latter's death in 313, she had to flee, and Licinius was the murder two years later.
