Exemplaire parfaitement centré sur un flan ovale. Superbe portrait et très beau revers. Patine marron foncé aux reflets métalliques

Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Galère César à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant.
Obverse translation : “Maximianus Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Maximien très noble césar).
Reverse
Reverse legend : GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI/ S|F//IITR.
Reverse description : Genio (Génie) debout de face, coiffé du modius, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Genio Populi Romani”, (Au Génie du Peuple romain).
Commentary
Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Type rare avec ce buste également drapé, que nous présentons pour la première fois à la vente !.

Caesar
Galère is of humble origin. Chosen as Caesar on March 1 or May 1, 293, he was subordinate to Diocletian to help him govern the East. Galerius suffered a crushing defeat in 296 against the Sassanids but the following year he defeated Narses. According to Lactantius, he was at the origin of the persecution of Christians in 302-303. During Diocletian's illness, he pushes the latter to abdicate. Diocletian and Maximian leave power on May 1, 305 to Galerius and Constance, who become augusts. The last six years of his life, he watched helplessly as the political regime created by Diocletian: the Tetrarchy crumbled. He died on May 5, 311 after having interrupted the persecution against Christians five days earlier..
