Coments on the condition:

Flan assez large, mais irrégulier. Le droit est complet mais de frappe molle alors que le revers est de frappe vigoureuse, mais légèrement décentré. Très agréable patine grise, avec une partie du brillant de frappe (surtout au revers)

Commentary

Comme sur l’exemplaire B. 6000, ce denier a deux globules en cantonnement du premier canton et trois globules en cantonnement des autres.

FRISIA - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th-8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
